A Rune is not just a letter in ancient Norse alphabets. It is “in its general meaning, a tale of magic and mystery” (Sigurd Olsen, “Runes of the North”, 1963). For Olson, Runes and the stories they wove contained the “haunting appeal of the wilderness and the tales and legends found there”. He spent his life wandering the lands, lakes and rivers of the north country of Minnisota and Canada. Each moment was seeing and listening to the runes of the wild. At the heart of these tales are rivers.
I have been a photographer much of my adult life, focusing on Landscapes, places, people and especially rivers. I live in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado, with a long history in the Eagle Valley. I have traveled extensivly in North America, but my heart is in the Intermountain West of the US, particularly the Colorado River Basin. I've worked on water and river issues for three decades as a private citizen and with organisations like American Rivers, Trout Unlimited and the Sierra Club. The Colorado River and its headwaters is my home and my passion.
